    H2020 Training & Networking for Eastern Partnership Experts at Energy Networking4Innovation Event

    With the support of the IncoNet EaP project, energy experts from Eastern Partnership countries participated in the Networking4Innovation event in Bratislava. This international brokerage event focused on energy efficiency and renewable energy. The EaP energy experts also took part in a Horizon 2020 training provided by RCISD back-to-back with the brokerage event.

    These EU-Eastern Partnership cooperation projects have made a difference

    The IncoNet EaP project partners have prepared a review of selected outcomes of international STI cooperation projects the EU is involved in. Their focus was on Energy, Environment and Health related projects.The result is a list of noteworthy deliverables from EU-Eastern Partnership cooperation projects, which are available to the public.     IncoNet EaP Winter School 'Energy Efficiency: International Project Management – from Theory to Practice'

    The IncoNet EaP winter school offered tips on finding information on Horizon 2020 funding, preparing successful Horizon 2020 project proposals, and managing projects with international research teams. Invitations were sent to short-listed applicants to the IncoNet EaP summer school, which took place in June. These were early-stage researchers and research project managers from EaP Countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine) EU Member States and Associated Countries.

    Horizon 2020 Association Conference and Training Seminar in Yerevan

    The IncoNet EaP project organised a Horizon 2020 Association Conference and Training Seminar devoted to Armenia's association to Horizon 2020, the EU's current Framework Programme for Research and Innovation. The events were held in Yerevan on 10-11 November 2016. The main objective was to present the additional opportunities arising from Armenia's association to Horizon 2020 to the Armenian authorities, policy makers and STI stakeholders. About 140 participants attended the events.

    Training Seminar 'How to prepare a Horizon 2020 proposal'

    On 8 November 2016, a training titled ‘How to prepare a Horizon 2020 proposal’ took place at Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation Conference Hall. The event was organised by the IncoNet EaP project (STI International Cooperation Network for Eastern Partnership Countries). The training agenda included presentations e.g. on widening the participation instruments and developing a project idea into a proposal. The training was attended by representatives of the Georgian scientific and research institutions.

    On 7 November 2016, a conference titled 'Associated to Horizon 2020: What’s next - from association to impact generation' took place in Tbilisi. It was organised by the IncoNet EaP project (STI International Cooperation Network for Eastern Partnership Countries). The conference was attended by the Minister of Education and Science of Georgia, representatives of Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation, representatives of the IncoNet EaP Project partner institutions,the EU Delegation to Georgia, researchers and stakeholders from Georgian scientific research institutions.

    Workshop on 'Preparing the inclusion of Black Sea and Eastern Partnership Countries in Thematic COFUND ERANETs'

    A 'Workshop for the Participation of Non-EU Black Sea and EaP Countries in Thematic COFUND ERANETs & JPIs' took place on 13-14 October 2016, in Baku, Azerbaijan. This event marked an important step towards the association of Black Sea and Eastern Partnership countries to Horizon 2020. It served both as an informative meeting for ERANET/JPI schemes, as well as a networking event with EU Member State funding agencies in view of increasing the participation of Black Sea/EaP countries in ongoing or forthcoming co-funding schemes.

    'EaP PLUS' – New Horizon 2020 Project with Eastern Partnership Countries kicks-off in Athens

    'EaP PLUS' (STI International Cooperation Network for Eastern Partnership Countries – PLUS) is a new coordination and support action funded under Horizon 2020, which was launched on 1 September 2016. The 17 partners of the project took part in a kick-off meeting on 26 September in Athens. EaP PLUS aims to stimulate cooperation between researchers from the Eastern Partnership countries and EU Member States and enhance the active participation of the EaP countries in the Horizon 2020 Framework Programme.

    Horizon 2020 Training for Eastern Partnership Energy Experts at the Energy Networking4Innovation Brokerage Event

    This grant scheme financially supports the participation of local researchers from Eastern Partnership countries in a Horizon 2020 training and brokerage event in Bratislava, Slovakia on 29-30 November 2016. Networking4Innovation is organised by Danube-INCO.NET and the Enterprise Europe Network on 30 November. The training on 29 November will be conducted back-to-back with the Energy Networking4Innovation Brokerage Event (a side event to the SET Plan Conference 2016). Maximum funding per grant is 1,500 EUR.

The thematic priorities of the call are the three Societal Challenges targeted by the projects, namely 'Health', 'Energy' and 'Climate Change'. Maximum funding per grant is 1,500 EUR.

    IncoNet EaP Targeted Call for EU-Eastern Partnership Twinning Teams – call closed!

    This targeted call opened on 1 September 2016 and closed on 30 September 2016. The main goal of the call 'EU-EaP Twinning Grants' is to identify EU and Eastern Partnership cooperation teams and to support the preparation for proposals of open and upcoming calls of the Horizon 2020 Work Programmes focusing on the three societal challenges: 'Climate Change', 'Health' and 'Energy'. The duration of the twinning projects is 15 October to 30 November 2016. The grants will be paid in lump sums of 2,000 Euro for each twinning project.

    Workshop on 'Identifying and Engaging the Scientific Diaspora from EaP Countries'

    The IncoNet EaP project conducted a mapping study on the scientific disapora from Eastern Partnership countries, which was presented and discussed in a workshop on 30th June/ 1st July in Vienna, Austria. The key questions of the study were: How to get access to the scientific diaspora from EaP countries? How to make use of the scientific diaspora from EaP countries to increase the STI cooperation between EU and EaP countries?

    Webinar with Coordinators of Projects supported by the IncoNet EaP/CA Twinning Grants

    The IncoNet EaP and IncoNet CA projects jointly organised two calls for twinning grants. A third call – targeting the Eastern Partnership region – has been pre-announced for September 2016. The main objective of the twinning instrument is to increase the participation of Eastern Partnership and Central Asian countries in EU calls. In order to evaluate the effectiveness and usefulness of this funding instrument, the DLR Project Management Agency organised a short webinar session with coordinators of projects supported by the twinning grants on 27 July 2016.

    Memorandum of Understanding signed at Eastern Partnership STI Evaluation Platform Meeting

    On 27-28 June 2016, the Shota Rustaveli National Science Foundation hosted an international workshop of the 'Eastern Partnership Science, Technology and Innovation Evaluation Platform'. The IncoNet EaP project had started preparations for a Memorandum of Understanding among the active research funding agencies and research commitees in the EaP countries in 2014. Two previous workshops led up to the current event, which aimed to progress the drafted documents and to find ways to establish an active network functioning beyond the existence of IncoNet EaP.

    The IncoNet Eap Summer School 'Energy Efficiency: International Project Management – from Theory to Practice' was held between 13-17 June 2016 in Vienna under the co-organisation of ZSI and TUBITAK. 24 participants, with academic, NGO, and private sector backgrounds, attended the summer school. They came from 18 different countries, the majority of them from the Eastern Partnership region.

    Training for National Contact Points (NCPs) in Belarus: Horizon 2020 – Partner Search Tools

    On 10 June 2016 a training for Horizon 2020 National Contact Points (NCPs) took place in Minsk. The event focused on partner search with the help of most widely used electronic tools for this purpose - CORDIS, EEN and Idealist. The training was organised by the 'Belarusian Institute of System Analysis and Information Support for Scientific and Technical Sphere' (BelISA) and the Business Cooperation Centre of the Enterprise Europe Network  (EEN Belarus) and supported by the EU funded IncoNet EaP project.

    The third Policy Stakeholders Conference organised by the IncoNet EaP project took place in Budapest on 19-20 April 2016. The main aim of the Policy Stakeholders Conferences was to bring together policy makers, representatives of the research community and the private sector to address specific problems that countries in the region face and that are of mutual interest and benefit.

    Belarus: Awareness raising campaign on the network of Horizon 2020 National Contact Points launched in Minsk

    The network of National Contact Points (NCPs) is the main structure to provide guidance, practical information and assistance on all aspects of participation in Horizon 2020. NCPs are also established in many non-EU countries. An awareness raising and promotion campaign on the national network of NCPs in Belarus was launched in Minsk this month with the support of the IncoNet EaP project. Among other activities, the campaign includes a training for NCPs to be held in Minsk in June and travel grants for participation in the NCP-related events organised by the European Commission and NCP thematic networks in May – July 2016.

    Three Webinars for NCP Structures in CA and EaP Countries

    The IncoNet EaP and IncoNet CA projects jointly organised a small series of webinars to enhance the capacities of Horizon 2020 National Contact Points in the Eastern Partnership and Central Asian Counries. The last webinar in this series focused on the 'Participant Portal', the single-entry point to interact with the Research Programmes of the European Commission, which offers tools to manage and monitor proposals and projects.

    IncoNet EaP Summer School 'Energy Efficiency. International Project Management – from Theory to Practice.'

    From the generation of the first project ideas to the successful implementation of projects in intercultural and multidisciplinary teams, the work of researchers and project managers involves a wide range of challenges. IncoNet EaP organised a summer school for young researchers and project managers from the Eastern Partnership Countries, EU Member States and Associated Countries active in the field of 'energy efficiency'. The aim of the training was to learn more about project management processes in international scientific projects particularly related to Horizon 2020 as well as Marie Skłodowska-Curie Actions to support mobility.

    EU-Eastern Partnership International Cooperation Barometer - Take part in our survey!

    The InoNet EaP project is conducting a survey about the framework conditions and cooperation opportunities of STI in general and more particularly between the EU and the Eastern Partnership countries. With the related questionnaire addressing the six countries (Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Moldova and Ukraine), we would like to measure the development of potentials of bi-regional Science, Technology and Innovation cooperation over time. Following the first round in 2015 the survey is repeated to get comparative data for analysis.

    Annual event 'Horizon 2020 NCPs training' of the EaP Panel on Research and Innovation

    The annual event 'Horizon 2020 NCPs training' of the EaP Panel on Research and Innovation took place on 16-17 March in Kiev (Ukraine) with the active participation of the National Contact Points of the EaP Countries. The event was organised jointly from the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine and the DG Research and Innovation, EC. In addition, Coordinators of the IncoNet EaP Project (FP7) and of the RI-LINKS2UA Project (H2020) together with NCPs from France, Germany, Estonia, Lithuania, Poland and Sweden contributed with their experience to the Training.

    Expert Group Meetings for Recommendations on EU-EaP Science, Technology & Innovation Cooperation in 'Health' and 'Climate Change'

    The FP7-funded Projects IncoNet CA and IncoNet EaP organised a series of Expert Group Meetings. The meetings were part of an evaluation of the outcomes of the major activities in three topics, namely: Health, Climate Change and Energy, addressed by the IncoNet CA and IncoNet EaP projects. In addition, the Expert Group Meetings aimed to provide recommendations for the future of EU-CA and EU-EaP cooperation in these fields. To that purpose, one Expert Group Meeting for each topic was organised for each of the two target regions 'Eastern Partnership' and 'Central Asia', making it six workshops altogether.

    The third INNOVER-EAST training on EU-Eastern Partnership Cooperation in 'Energy' was held in Minsk on 29 February 2016. Its main goal was to improve knowledge and skills of EaP partners in participating in the EU's research and innovation programmes. Olga Meerovskaya, BelISA, partner in both the INNOVER-EAST and the IncoNet EaP projects presented analytical findings from the IncoNet EaP project, including a database of EaP programmes and projects, an analysis of its content related to Energy, as well as an analysis of EU-EaP co-publications in Energy.

    Results of Policy Mix Peer Review presented in Georgia

    The IncoNet EaP organised two so called 'Policy Mix Peer Reviews', one in Armenia and a second in Georgia. S&T policy mix peer reviews serve to assess the science system of a certain country, with the support of international experts (peers). On the basis of international experience and good practice with S&T governance, financing of research, etc. recommendations are given for improving the respective S&T system.

    Networking activities and H2020 training for Eastern Partnership Energy experts at AquaMatch Amsterdam

    Under the support of the IncoNet Central Asia project, energy and water experts from Eastern Partnership countries participated in 'AquaMatch Amsterdam', an international Water Technology & Innovation brokerage event. The event was organised by the Netherlands Enterprise Agency and the Enterprise Europe Network. AquaMatch took place at Aquatech Amsterdam during the Amsterdam International Water Week. From 3 - 6 November participants had access to the Aquatech Amsterdam exhibition, an extensive conference and workshop programme and various excursions.

    This was the 2nd Policy Stakeholders Conference (PSC) organised by the IncoNet EaP project and the 6th in a series of events targeting the Eastern Partnership region,which was started by its predecessor project IncoNet EECA.     The 'Horizon 2020 Week – 2015' was held in Minsk on 21-25 September 2015. It presented opportunities for Belarusian research organisations and businesses to participate in the Horizon 2020 calls for proposals 2016-2107. For Belarus, the start of Horizon 2020 has been quite promising: upon the results of the first year, 11 projects with national participants have already brought around 1,5 mln EUR. However, having almost 20 thousand researchers, Belarus has a much higher capacity.

    The ASEAN-EU Science, Technology and Innovation Days 2015 took place in Paris, France from 17-19 March under the overarching theme 'Excellent science in ASEAN'. The 2nd edition of this forum-like event attracted a wide range of stakeholders engaged in international science cooperation, scientific research or innovation. The Eastern Partnership countries were in the focus of two well visited side-events: One dicussed potential impacts of Climate Change on water management, the other tackled non-infectious lung diseases and infectious diseases.
